Immortality
(Written on Blyth beach)

Toward the end that seems to be
Where yonder meet the sky and sea,
From the small boundary of the shore
The human eye can see no more.

Yet should we venture on the sea
Towards the end that seems to be,
The far horizon’s rim would rise
Expanding still the sea and sky.

New continents beyond our shore
Reach out and link the whole world o’er,
Life in its myriad form goes on
Beneath a universal sun.

Not to an end but to a door,
To that which is and was before,
The eternal horizon lifts when we
Approach the end that seems to be.
